Writing & Executive Functioning Coaching for Students
Practical, individualized support for students working on application essays, resumes, and the executive functioning skills that help them manage school and everything that comes with it.
Hi, I’m Amber! I am a writing and executive functioning coach who works with middle, high school, and college students. Sometimes a student needs help finding the story inside a rough first draft. Sometimes they need a better way to organize four years of experiences on a resume. And sometimes they know exactly what they need to do but are having a hard time getting started.
My role is to help make that next step clearer and more manageable while keeping the work where it belongs: with the student.
How I Can Help
Application Essays
I support students through the writing and revision process for college and other school application essays, from an early idea to a nearly finished draft.
Depending on what a student needs, we might brainstorm, talk through an idea that isn’t quite working yet, work on structure, or figure out what a reader still needs to understand. I also provide detailed written feedback to help students strengthen their drafts while keeping their natural voice intact.
The student remains the writer throughout the process. I don’t write application essays for students or supply experiences, ideas, or a voice that isn’t theirs. My job is to ask questions, give thoughtful feedback, and help them communicate what they want to say more clearly.
For application work, my role is focused specifically on writing and essay development rather than broader admissions strategy.
Resumes
I help students create or refine resumes for college applications, internships, scholarships, academic programs, and other opportunities.
We can start with an existing draft or build one from the ground up. Together, we look at what belongs, how to organize it, and how to describe the student’s experiences clearly and accurately.
The goal isn’t to make an experience sound bigger than it was. It’s to make sure the real substance of what a student has done doesn’t get lost in vague wording or a confusing format.
Executive Functioning
I work individually with students on practical executive functioning skills including planning, organization, prioritization, time management, task initiation, and follow-through.
That support isn’t only for students who are struggling academically. Some students are doing very well on paper but spending far more time and energy than anyone else sees just to keep everything moving.
I especially enjoy working with students with ADHD. Rather than handing a student another elaborate system to maintain, we look at what’s actually getting in the way and build strategies around their actual schedule, responsibilities, and needs.
How I Work
I believe students do their best work when they understand what they’re doing, why they’re doing it, and what comes next.
My style is warm, direct, and practical. I ask a lot of questions, point out what I notice, and help students figure out the next step when something feels stuck or overwhelming. Depending on the work, that may happen through one-on-one meetings, detailed written feedback, or a combination of both.
I don’t expect every student to work the same way, and I don’t want students to become dependent on me to keep everything moving.
Whether we’re working on an essay, a resume, or executive functioning, I want the student to leave with more ownership of what they’re doing, not less.
